The charge of the Admissions Requirement Committee from the Vice-President for Academic Affairs was to make a faculty recommendation regarding the university's undergraduate admissions policy. Your response to this survey will help the committee formulate the committee's recommendations.
The current Freshman Admission Policy is as follows: Minimum ACT of 21 or SAT of 1010 or ranked in the top half of their class. Freshman not meeting this policy must attend SFA for the entire summer and pass 12 hours with a C average or be admitted by Academic Opportunity Program (AOP). Several deans review the applications and letters of recommendation for these students and admit those with the most potential.
The current Transfer Admission Policy is as follows: If the applicant has completed less than 15 semester hours of transferable college credit they must have an overall 2.0 GPA and must satisfy eligibility requirements for first-semester freshman. If the applicant has completed more than 15 hours the applicant must not be on suspension from another educational institution and have a 2.0 GPA on all transferable work.
More details on SFA's admission requirements history and comparison information from other schools may be found at the following website: http://hubel.sfasu.edu/otherendev/asc/admstdreview.html
1. In your opinion, what are the strongest arguments for keeping SFA's current admission requirements?
2. In your opinion, what are the strongest arguments for raising SFA's current admission requirements?
3. In your opinion, should SFA keep or raise its current admissions requirements? Select a number from 1 to 7, where 1 indicates you strongly feel we should keep the current requirements, 4 indicates you are neutral, and 7 indicates you strongly feel we should raise the current requirements. 1 (Keep as is) 2 3 4 (Neutral) 5 6 7 (Raise)
4. If you think admission requirements should be changed, what new requirements would you suggest?
5. If you think admission requirements should be changed, approximately what percentage of currently admitted new freshmen do you think would be blocked from admission?
6. Raising admissions standards does not work in isolation. For example, any rise in admissions requirements would result in a decline in enrollment unless the university did something to attract more students who meet the new requirements than it is currently attracting. Check any potential ways that you can foresee that a substantial increase in the admissions requirements would affect SFA Size of freshman enrollment Quality of students Number of faculty Prestige of SFA Faculty morale Quality of faculty Support services (e.g., Admission's Office, AARC) Retention of students
Other (please list)
7. What is the current perception of SFA's "reputation?" In the description please be comprehensive and indicate from whose perspective (student, faculty, or parents).
8. Do you think the "reputation" would change if we changed (i.e., raised) the admissions requirements? Why or why not?
9. Please describe how SFA could attract more quality students?
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME!
